Breakfast Seminar Series – Weed Like To Talk: A High Level Discussion About Cannabis In The Workplace
14 June @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am
With Bill C-45, the Cannabis Act, and Bill C-46, An Act to amend the Criminal Code, currently before the Senate for approval, concerns are rising about the potential impact of legal recreational cannabis on the Canadian workplace. However, until then, the use of cannabis for medical purposes continues to increase across Canada and employers have competing obligations when it comes to the risks associated with impairment in the workplace. While employers have a duty to accommodate employees who have a legitimate need to use cannabis for medical purposes, they also have a duty to ensure employees are safe at work.
As an executive, corporate counsel, human resources practitioner or other professional responsible for human resources within your organization, it is important to keep abreast of legal issues affecting the workplace with respect to cannabis use, but it is often difficult to find the time to remain current on these competing issues.
In this fast-paced breakfast seminar, our lawyers will provide key information on the following topics of discussion:
- Who’s using cannabis and why
- The impairing effects of cannabis
- Drug use and fitness for duty
- Employers’ obligations with respect to accommodation and safety
- Dealing with potential substance use or abuse problems through workplace policies
