2 November, 2016 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am
Paul Lalonde, J.D. Sharp
For Managers, Human Resources and Labour Relations professionals, keeping on top of the important arbitration decisions that affect your unionized workplace is a critical task.
Join us as our lawyers review and present the merits and implications of some of this year’s key arbitration decisions. Participants will be provided with an understanding of the current state of the law, as well as practical implications for best practices in their workplace.
Specific topics will include:
- An employer’s obligations in investigating and responding to allegations of harassment, including sexual harassment
- Can employers be held liable for harassing and derogatory comments posted to their social media sites by clients or members of the general public?
- Legal issues associated with the increasing use of medical marijuana by employees, and some of the practical challenges in knowing how to respond
- Practical challenges in responding to requests for accommodation – What information is an employer entitled to? What to do when you receive inconsistent or conflicting medical opinions? Are employers entitled to question the appropriateness of a treatment plan being followed by an employee? Can an employee insist on a specific form of accommodation?
