Breakfast Seminar Series – New Legal Requirements for Preventing and Investigating Workplace Sexual Harassment: Are You Compliant?

8 September, 2016 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am

Presented by: Colleen Dunlop and Amanda Sarginson

Coming into force on September 8, 2016, Bill 132, the Sexual Violence and Harassment Action Plan Act (Supporting Survivors and Challenging Sexual Violence and Harassment), 2016, amends the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) to introduce new and onerous requirements for Ontario employers.

In addition to updating workplace harassment policies, procedures and employee training, employers must now also ensure that proper investigations are conducted and reports are produced whenever an allegation of sexual harassment is made.

Employers should anticipate an increase in the number of investigations to be conducted, making it more important than ever to ensure that human resources practitioners, executives, corporate counsel and others responsible for human resources have the skills and knowledge they need to conduct quality investigations that will withstand scrutiny by arbitrators and the courts.

Please join our lawyers on the day Bill 132 comes into force as they review practical guidelines and best practices for workplace investigations, and show you how to avoid common pitfalls.

Topics to be addressed include:

  • Bill 132 and the changes it creates to the OHSA
  • What these changes mean for big and small employers alike
  • The practical how-to’s of conducting an investigation into a complaint of sexual harassment
  • Ministry-approved 7 step approach to investigations
  • Generating an acceptable investigation report

Our high quality training sessions have been accredited by the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) for CPD hours required by professionals in order to maintain their Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation. Be sure to contact us for more information.
