André Champagne


A 1985 graduate of the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa and a member of the Bar since 1987, André serves a large client base in the public, broader public and private sectors with a particular focus on health care and post-secondary education. His clients value his strategic input, practical advice and responsiveness. He has been recognized and designated as a leader in labour and employment law by Lexpert and Best Lawyers, two organizations that rank legal professionals by peer review.

In addition to maintaining a substantial bilingual practice specializing in grievance arbitration, André supports his vast client base by providing advice and legal representation in the context of collective agreement bargaining, preparation of employment contracts, policies, managing risks related to dismissals and reorganization, defending against wrongful dismissal actions, complaints filed with the Ontario Ministry of Labour, employment standards, harassment and discrimination complaints filed with the Human Rights Tribunal, attendance and disability plans and procedures for certification, decertification or complaints filed with the Ontario Labour Relations Board.

André is a former school board trustee, vice-president and president of the former Ottawa Catholic Separate School Board and is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Association des juristes d’expression française de l’Ontario (AJEFO), the Regroupement des gens d’affaires (RGA) and the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce.

André has been recognized since 2013 by The Best Lawyers in Canada for his work in Labour and Employment Law and has been repeatedly recommended by The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory in 2014, 2017 and 2018 in Labour Relations – Management.
